Movie Review

This movie doesn’t feel great; it seems amateurish and low-budget. There are many issues, like the screenplay, CGI, makeup, and costumes. Some dialogues are cringey, and actors sometimes overact. The biggest problem is that it looks more like a cheap TV show than a proper movie. However, there are some good things, the actors manage to make you feel for their characters at times. The story isn’t very consistent, but some parts are wonderful. They’ve changed a lot from the original story and shortened it significantly, but they still created a nice magical fairy-tale based on Russian children’s literature classics. I can’t really recommend this as a great movie. It’s definitely not the best of Russian cinema and doesn’t even compare to the 1975 cartoon. However, if you have some free time, you might give it a shot.
