Movie Review

I watched this film at home on BluRay, which I borrowed from our public library. I find that the IMDb rating for this movie seems a bit low. It is a well-made and entertaining film with A-list actors, including those who voice animated characters. The story revolves around Queen Victoria, who is seriously ill and suspects she is being poisoned after a conversation with a squid in a tank. She embarks on a long cruise to find a specific plant that is believed to be able to cure her, even though its existence is uncertain. The film heavily relies on green screen and CGI, which gives it a more cartoonish appearance rather than the look of a conventionally filmed movie. It reminds me of watching Saturday morning cartoons, with only a few live-action characters. In summary, it is a highly entertaining film. I enjoyed it so much that I watched it again three months later in September 2020, this time with my wife. We both liked it even more on the second viewing. I must add that I am a big fan of Jessie Buckley, who portrays the sick Queen in a relatively small yet captivating role. She truly lights up the screen.
