I personally believe horror genre doesn’t necessarily need to have a complex plot, but a good screenplay, creepy atmosphere, pacing, tension, and genuine scares are essential. The plot of Talk to me is quite basic—evil and supernatural forces manifest through an embalmed hand. Given the scarcity of great horror movies, you can still find some thrills and appreciate the untapped potential. The film boasts good quality in terms of visuals and the performances are convincing. Due to the lower budget, the film didn’t rely heavily on CGI. Some scenes managed to be genuinely creepy. There were moments with a dark atmosphere that reminded me of scenes from “Hereditary.” The movie had too much filler content. While character development is crucial, the first 25-30 minutes were quite dull and slow. The screenplay felt disjointed, and the pacing was inconsistent. The scenes involving the hand were intriguing, but the parts with the characters in between lacked interest. It felt like I was watching a drama instead of a horror film at times. In the end, the movie boils down to a few entertaining and scary scenes amidst messy writing. It seemed like they were trying too hard without a clear direction. Perhaps focusing on a different angle could have made the story deeper. Honestly, this could have worked better as a short film lasting around 12-13 minutes. Is this movie at the level of “Hereditary” from 2018? Definitely not. Is it worth watching? Honestly, yes.
