This outstanding movie RDX! adds to the list of great action entertainers like Ajagajantharam and Thallumaala, but with even higher emotional stakes. The chemistry between the three leads – Robert (Shane Nigam), Dony (Antony Varghese), and Xavier (Neeraj Madhav) – is fantastic and elevates even the ordinarily written scenes. Nahas has given distinct fighting styles to each protagonist – a concept reminiscent of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – where Robert’s kicks are impressive, Dony’s punches are powerful, and Xavier excels with nunchaku. With stunt masters Anbarivu on board, the action sequences are meticulously designed, choreographed, and stylized. While the introductory fight felt slightly out of place initially, as the film progresses, we become accustomed to Shane Nigam and Neeraj Madhav’s action skills, which are showcased brilliantly. Some of my favorite action scenes include one on a boat, another inside a colony filled with thugs, and the climactic showdown outside the hospital. What’s commendable is that the story necessitates the action, making it integral to the plot. The cinematography keeps getting better with each set piece, and Sam CS delivers a riveting score that enhances both the action and the quieter moments. The antagonist, played by Vishnu Agasthya, is portrayed splendidly, exuding a natural devilish charm that’s been missing in Malayalam action films lately. Mahima Nambiar, who plays Robert’s love interest, delivers a strong performance and even has a whistle-worthy moment in the final act. Speaking of whistle-worthy moments, Babu Antony steals the show with the best one in the entire film, especially for us ’90s kids.
